FIMM - PRESENTATION

  • The French International Mountain Marathon is an exciting event intended for runners, orienteers and walkers of all levels.

    • According to the participants' motivation and ability, it can be regarded as a demanding competition, an outdoor leisure activity or as simple family hike.
    • The goal of this two-day event is to search for as many optional markers (in french "balises" made of blue and yellow fabric) as possible and to go through compulsory check-points within a limited time. At the end of the first stage, a bivouac is organised.
    • Each team of two maps its own route. For this, the team members have to take into account their own physical ability and use the IGN (Institut Géographique National) 1/25000th-scale map of the markers (a color copy will be provided to each team member).
    • The markers are worth 10 to 30 points depending on their location and delays at checkpoints or at the finish involve penalty points.
    • Ranking is obtained by substracting the possible penalty points from the total amount of points. Above all, the team members must keep in mind that the event is based on time management.

    • Do not hesitate to take part to the FIMM, for the minimum ranking course is accessible to any hiker: for each stage, which lasts about 6 hours, the aim is to walk 12 to 15 kms (8 to 10 miles), and find 6 markers.

  • A one-day event, whose principle is identical to the competition, is proposed Saturday and Sunday.

  • An event for all ("Randonnée pour tous"), whose principle is identical to the competition, is proposed Sunday.
The teams can be composed from 1 people, 1 family or 1 group.
It is about discovering a maximum of markers in one time of 4 hours, in order to get the most possible of  points. However, theres is not an ordering, and the medical certificate is not obligatory. Obligatory parental authorization for the non accompanied miners (minimum 16 years).

    Suggested equipment:
drinks, foods, hot clothes, rain clothes, shoes and material adapted to the hike of one day (some compasses can be lent).
